University and College Home Pages - Survey Results

July, 1996. The top fifteen schools are listed below and each has received at least 15 votes. Schools with the most votes are listed first. I am temporarily unable to take additional nominations, but look for a new survey within the next couple of months. You may also want to take a look at a final class project done at Columbia University's Teachers College which surveyed over 450 school home pages.

Note that the comments people seem to make most when nominating a homepage include the following characteristics:

Attractive, yet limited graphics.
Easy to find information. In particular people seem to want to be able to find:
- Admissions information
- Alumni information
- Campus Maps
- Email directories
- Information about the surrounding community
- Research and Departmental Programs
- US Postal Address
Short pages. If a user needs to scroll down the page more than once, you might want to consider breaking the information down into several pages.
