X-Comment: Educacao em Matematica Status: RO ANNOUNCEMENT OF A NEW ELECTRONIC JOURNAL IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION The Centre for Research in Mathematics Education, University of Southampton, UK has begun the publication of an electronic journal devoted to mathematics education research and discussion. The format of the journal, and submission procedures, can be found at the following URL: http://www.soton.ac.uk/~gary/Math_thought.html The journal has an international editorial panel, and will accept articles in any area of mathematics education research. The editors are presently particularly keen for articles on college and university mathematics education and adult mathematics education. Articles will be peer reviewed expeditiously. The journal is a quarterly (ISSN 1461-7803) but articles accepted for publication will be published as soon as practicable following acceptance. The editors seek high quality research articles, detailing experimental studies in the the nature of mathematical thought, including cognitive and social studies of learners and teachers; theoretical articles on the nature of mathematical thought; review articles on mathematical thought and thinking; articles on the philosophy of or rationale for mathematical thinking, including articles on the nature of mathematical thought in classrooms; articles on the use of electronic media in promoting mathematical thinking; student or teacher work in mathematical thinking; problems useful in promoting mathematical thought. Articles that are written as marked-up HTML documents will appear quickly following review and acceptance. The editors encourage prospective authors to make extensive use of hypertext links, graphics, and streaming audio and video. ______________________________________________________________________ Gary E.
