Since May 2005 the Tenerife Infrared Polarimeter II (TIP2) has been operational at the Vacuum Tower Telescope on Tenerife. The core of the polarimeter is a 1024x1024 infrared camera allowing for high precision measurements of the full Stokes vector with a smallest pixel size of 0.18", corresponding to the diffraction limit of the telescope at 1070 nm. The polarimeter is able to reach a polarimetric accuracy of a few times 10$^{-4}$, covering a wavelength range of 1070 to 1600 nm. With an upgrade in July 2006 the slit size will be increased to 70" allowing to cover most active regions with a single scan. Here we present the technical details of the polarimeter and the camera. We also show some data illustrating the power of this new instrumentation. |
