In a joint presentation the first speaker will briefly review the current science capabilities of the Dutch Open Telescope and then discuss various options for future partnerships. The second speaker will detail designs for possible aperture increases to 140 cm and to 250 cm, respectively. Both are relatively cheap through re-using much of the existing mechanical structure. Both add adaptive optics. The first maintains the current multi-wavelength speckle imaging system; the second furnishes image transfer to optical tables in a groundbased laboratory. The important advantages of open, wind-transparent and wind-flushed structure and absence of primary-image rotation through parallactic mounting remain. |
