Synoptic observations of the Sun in the strong chromospheric absorption lines Ca II K and H-alpha have a long tradition at Big Bear Solar Observatory. We present an overview of the telescope and instrumentation and show some of the most recent results. Local correlation tracking has been used to monitor flow fields in H-alpha, which include chromospheric differential rotation and proper motions associated with active regions and solar eruptive events. The Ca II K data has been extensively used to follow the solar irradiance variation. Here, we will focus one some peculiarities of solar cycle No. 23.
