The chromosphere is dominated by is dominated on small scales by jets known as spicules, mottles, and fibrils. They are commonly observed as dark absorption features in H-alpha. Jet-like features with similar morphological and dynamical properties also show up in other chromospheric and transition region observations.
We study the differences and similarities of the various structures in chromospheric and transition-region diagnostics. In particular, we compare H-alpha mottles and fibrils to "grass" in Ca II H (long thin emission features that stick out from the magnetic network), to UV mottles and fibrils in C IV, and to "moss" in TRACE 171A Fe IX/X. |
