Scattering polarization in the ca ii ir triplet for the diagnostics of the solar chromosphere

We show in that the scattering polarization in the infrared triplet of Ca II may be used to diagnose weak magnetic fields (from 1 milligauss to 10 gauss) in the quiet solar chromosphere. We also show that the same polarization signals can be used to probe the thermal structure of the solar chomosphere.
